Bring the Celts to life in your own school grounds. The students will design, plan and find the resources to build their own model of a Celtic roundhouse. Using authentic material and techniques they will weave the wattle and daub walls and create a defended water tight dwelling, painted with Celtic designs.

Flight Day

Crymlyn Bog NNR is a fantastic place to explore flight. We not only have the amazing array of reedbed birds to listen to and spot but also the pond containing the nymphs of dragonflies, beetles and midges.

Undertaking an investigation

The students undertake their first investigation from stating a hypothesis and identifying the correct environment to undertake the data collection, to collecting data and analysing the results. The whole investigation is undertaken in one day with details of follow up investigations to take place back at school.

An in-depth look at the plants found in the bog habitat and how they are adapted to live in these harsh conditions. Oxwich NNR field trips

The Countryside Council for Wales is funding 10 visits to Oxwich National Nature Reserve to undertake field trips.

Nature Days has produced a teacher’s pack for Oxwich NNR and each field trip will be supported with pre and post visit work to be undertaken within the school.

Field trips available include;
Scientific enquiry,
Habitats,
Adaptation,
Food webs,
Geographical techniques – compass work, map work, grid references,
Art,
Sustainability – erosion, human impact, management and conservation.

Each trip will include a copy of the teacher’s pack and all necessary resources including identification guides and worksheets.

Village study

A detailed investigation into how a rural village has changed over the last 100 years. Students will investigate changes in building materials, design of houses, location of houses, services and residents occupations. The day will also build on map reading skills, using keys and using baseline maps to look at changes over time.
